HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Cuba is offering in Haiti an unprecedented comprehensive rehabilitation service at public institutions of that nation, devastated by the January 12 earthquake.
More than 20,000 patients have received this type of treatment, which in many cases is…
… vital for their recovery after the traumas suffered as a consequence of the disaster, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
So far, 11 wards for this treatment have been fitted out, and soon there will be another 10.
"Rehabilitation was something practically unknown here. When we opened ward, only two patients came, and then they began to pass the word on to the others. The amount of people received rapidly increased, so much so that we’re now seeing over 100 people a day", explained Doctor Alexis Verdecia This physician, who heads the ward of La Renaissance Hospital, explains that, in spite of experience accumulated by the group of technicians accompanying him, sometimes the speed with which Haitians assimilate treatment is hard to believe.
Rehabilitation facilities are equipped with laser devices, electromagnetic lamps and other advanced techniques.
