Arthur Valenzuela, U.S. undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere disclosed the proposal in the bilateral meeting with Dominican Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales in New York, during the International Donors Conference "Towards a New Future for Haiti."
“Guyana has abundant oil resources and Colombia has an abundant generation capacity," Valenzuela said while noting that it may be the only way to put and end to deforestation and meet electricity needs for Haiti’s companies and homes from sources other than firewood and charcoal.
Morales reiterated his country’s interest to supply power to Haiti and Puerto Rico.
The U.S. delegation felt “commoved" by the generous response by the international community in favor of Haiti. “That a country such as Norway offered US$100 million without having majors links with Haiti or the region, is simply commoving," Valenzuela said.
