...And The Media Are Welcome
MONTREAL, March 31 /CNW Telbec/ - Members of the media are welcome to
join well renowned Canadian signer Luck Mervil who will be travelling to his
country of birth, Haiti. From april 13th to april 18th he will...
... provide assistance and oversee the humanitarian aid project in St. Marc and Gonaives
where CECI is leading its intervention in the most pressing food and health
care needs. This project is financed with funds raised during a recent
humanitarian aid campaign. As spokesperson of this campaign carried out by the
Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), Mr. Mervil
has committed himself to inform the Canadian public on how their generosity is
contributing to alleviate the hardships of the Haitian people resulting from
the recent political conflicts.
However, the one-half million dollars collected so far will not be enough
to see the Haitian people through the humanitarian crisis. In addition to
emergency aid for food and medication, we must assist the populations affected
by the crisis in their social and economic rebuilding. Consequently, CECI aims
to raise a total of one million dollars to strengthen basic health care
institutions, improve the nutritional status of children and the poorest of
the poor, rebuild the health infrastructure and rehabilitate certain urban
environments in regions of Haiti where CECI is already working.
People and organizations who would like to donate to the CECI-Haiti
emergency humanitarian aid campaign can call: (514) 875-9911 (Montréal area)
or toll-free 1-877 875-2324 (outside the Montréal area). They can also send a
cheque to CECI (please designate Urgence-Haiti), 3185, rue Rachel Est,
Montréal (Québec) H1W 1A3.
